Our Story
We met during our engineering days. At that time, we were merely acquaintances. We did talk to each other occasionally but I don't think either of us entertained any thoughts of dating each other.
After we graduated, I found a job, and he left for the US to pursue higher education. He had this habit of writing status updates on how things were there, that I used to occasionally read, but there was no direct communication.

It was close to two and a half years before I visited India. At this point, I had completed my masters and was working as a developer.

I remember the day he visited India. Perhaps it was his excitement, perhaps nostalgia, but he called up old friends and wanted to meet up.
I was so excited to meet all my engineering friends again - it was my first trip back from the US.

Thats when I caught up with Nidhi and was able to spend more time with her. For some reason, she seemed less shy than before, and a lot of my perceptions about her (given how little I knew her) changed. It was cool hanging out with her. She definitely did make an impression in my mind, but still at best it was probably a looming crush.

... it was fun. But anyways, moving on with the story, I came back to the US and tried to keep in touch with her. When I was in Mumbai, she offered to see me off at the airport. That made my day … I couldn't forget that gesture for the longest time. My crush got stronger and I couldn't stop thinking about her. But the feelings were one way …

He kept calling me and I wasn't really interested in talking to him. Often I used to not pick up the phone and my mom used to end up talking to him. Now, when I think back, it was nice of him to call regularly … but I just wasn't interested in him beyond friendship.

Looking at how things were going, I resigned to just being friends with her. But, things were about to change in a few months.

I was presented the opportunity to work in Vienna. I wasn't sure whether I should go, but it seemed to make sense from a career viewpoint, so I took it up.

Yessss .... she moved to Europe. This presented an opportunity. I knew that she'd hardly knew anyone in Europe, which gave us more privacy and her more free time.

And then we got in touch over IM. He made plans to visit Europe with his sister later that year during Christmas. I was really excited about seeing Europe and we got busy making plans about cities to visit during the holiday season.

That trip was very interesting. Unfortunately, I fell sick in between of the trip, and the weather was really bad. Nevertheless, we visited a lot of cities and learned a lot. This was the first time that I got to interact with him.
